Altec officially releases its own branded Chargers ( electric and hydraulic ) and Core Drives to the Veneer Peeling market. Because of the design of the Vee feeder the charger gets faster as the blocks get smaller. Block counts of 22 per minute have been achieved in shop testing. Making it the highest block count charger currently on the market. By using precision roller screw actuators and electric servo motors the charger is very precise, fast and quiet. For the Electric version of our Charger all of the servo drives are mounted in modular panels and are located in the electrical room. This allows for the complete removal of the charger hydraulic power unit, valves, piping, cooling system and the environmental mess they produce. With innovative true linear X and Y axis positioning the calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting process is made much simpler. The charger comes with the new Altec XY Scanner version 2.0 which is the most advanced on the market today.
We now offer an expanding variety of mechanical items in conjunction with our controls such as Green and Dry stackers and clipping trash gates.
Our first electric servo clipper drive system is installed.
We officially release our XY Scanner Version 2.0, utilizing line bar lasers. The first system was installed in August 2013 and after extensive testing of the all new software and data storage system the Version 2.0 Scanner was officially launched in January 2014.
Altec expands its manufacturing facilty by double.
We install the first ever All Electric 10ft Charger, up to 48" diameter block handling capability, at Freres Lumber in Lyons on their 10ft veneer line. The charger also has the new XY Scanner Version 2.0 on it.
We supply and install a full AC Regenrative tray drive package including AC Regerantive Spindle Drive and 600HP motor to Timber Products, Yreka. The drive lineup is completely ABB Regenrative drives on a common bus. Q1 2013
With successful Tray Drive and Tray Control startups at Freres, Lyons OR and Boise Kettle Falls,WA we statred this year running. Continuing industry optimism has led to further orders and we are quickly expanding our market base.
Four more XY Scanner with Charger Controls, Lathe Controls and Electric Actuator packages are in progress and commissioning of these start in March which will bring the Electric Actuator lathe conversion number up to nine.
Our clipping trash gates are also performing very well with a recent install at Georgia Pacific Corrigan TX being the latest.
ALTEC will be exhibiting at the EWTA / APA Info Fair this year in the fall of 2013.
Altec has entered 2012 with a good order book that spans across multiple industries. With the economic forecast looking more positive investors are pressing on with projects that were previously on hold. With orders from our traditional markets in Forestry and Entertainment leading the way Altec continues to expand and work with new industries as well.
Altec Electric Actuators
We continue to apply our electric actuators, to replace hydraulic cylinders and their associated power units and coolers in traditional and new applications. The benefits we offer are better control of the axis, reduced maintenance, reduced power consumption and a lower cost of ownership. We offer a seamless transition into using the actuators with our full integration package.
Roseburg Weed, CA - recently upgraded their veneer lathe with Altec’s Lathe Controls. Altec used the existing ControlLogix hardware as much as possible to reduce costs and introduced our controls philosophy and programming. At the same time we installed electric actuators for the carriage, bar gap and knife pitch removing the hydraulic cylinders and the associated hydraulics. The plant saw an instant improvement in overall lathe control, reduced spin-outs, improved veneer quality and increased production.
Hood Industries Wiggins – with the successful installation of Altec controls in the green end, Hood Industries has realised substantial improvement in production and quality. Hood upgraded the line with a new XY Scanner and controls for charger, Lathe, Trays and Clipper. Altec also upgraded the log ladder to meet the higher piece count throughput with mechanical and control enhancements.
Spindle Drive and Tray Drive
Altec continues to lead Spindle Drive and Tray Drive upgrades complete with our unique control philosophy in multiple mills. Using modern, readily available components that are fully supported by our technicians, we have replaced obsolete and unsupported systems that had become a liability to production.
ALTEC releases NEW VERSION 2.0 THICKNESS QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM
The version 2.0 system is the most versatile and accurate system available on the market today. All data is stored in a 64-bit fully scalable SQL Databse. This includes the raw laser sensor data that is streamed into the database in real-time. Power users and client applications can connect to the database remotely to run their own custom queries and reports.
TWO MORE LATHES CONVERTED TO ALTEC ELECTRIC ACTUATORS
The new systems also include control of the Knife Pitch further making the systems more accurate, stiffer and giving the best precision control possible.
ALTEC PROVIDES TRAY CONTROLS FOR TROUBLED MILLS.
Altec has recently provided two tray control systems into mills requiring an open platform, non Black Box control and an accessable program format. The Altec system allows the customer to take ownership of their own system and customize the program to meet their own particular requirements.
THE ALTEC ACTUATOR GAINS MOMENTUM.
Two more electric actuator systems have been installed onto high throughput lathes. Roseburg Forest Products, Coquille, has installed Carriage and Bar Gap systems, Coastland Wood Industries has installed Carriage actuators. In both cases a marked improvement in veneer quality was instantly realised.
"The reduction in maintenance alone makes the units worth the price" quoted one maintenamce super.
ALTEC ELECTRIC ACTUATORS HIT THE MARKET RUNNING - Further to our news release last month Altec is pleased to announce the successful installation of Altec Electric Linear Actuators for the carriage and bar gap and a complete Lathe Control system at Roseburg Forest Products in Riddle, Oregon. The electric actuators combined with the new controls are providing greatly improved veneer thickness and veneer quality along with improved production and recovery. Roseburg is also realizing additional benefits inherent with the application of electric actuators such as greatly reduced maintenance and power savings.
