The Core Drive ( Back Up Rolls ) is a very instrumental part of making any lathe more efficient and for producing a better quality veneer. The Altec Core Drive is designed to stabilize the block during the peeling process. With our Lathe Controls we precisely position the upper and outer rolls as the block diameter decreases. The Back Up Upper and Outer Rolls along with the roller nose bar provide a three-point axis in which to control the deflection caused by the pressure on the block as it is forced over the lathe knife. The rotating speed of the independently powered rolls is perfectly matched to the surface speed of the diminishing block from round-up through core limit.
The Altec Core Drive system has a proven track record in multiple installations in North America and is in itself an integral part to any performance upgrade.
The core drive is a complete unit that is fully engineered and includes the hydraulic positioning cylinders, drive rolls and their associated hydraulic motors. The Altec Lathe Controls would control all aspects of the backup roll operation. We can also spec and supply the hydraulic power unit if required
